The hunting dagger (German: Hirschfänger, or deer catcher) is a 20–30-inch (510–760 mm) long double-edged German stabbing weapon, used to kill deer and boar in the 18th century. It was a weapon mainly used in the fancy hunts of the German nobility. The hunting dagger developed from Medieval hunting swords which were longer and mainly used by mounted hunters.
